Charleston Shooting

Charleston Shooting

“Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it is given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God. For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.” (Romans 3:19-20)

Don’t get me wrong, the Charleston shooting is, indeed, a tragedy. My heart aches for the people and families who lost loved ones.

However, I am appalled by the reactions and demands of our society!! It shouldn’t be about “the racist white man, the terrorist is a white man, call him what he is”. Nor should it be about “we don’t get any media attention or attention in general when a black man kills a white man”. Everybody is at fault here. I am not blaming or calling out any one person or body of persons in particular.

It should NOT matter if we are black or white. We shouldn’t worry about getting our racial credit or racial justice. It should just be about plain ole justice, regardless of our race or ethnicity.

If it is constantly going to be a race issue, we will just tear our nation down and never be able to progress and build America. If people are going to always use slavery as an excuse, then that’s just going to set up boundaries for you that you will never be able to overcome. Slavery is in the past. Sure, there are still “racist” people and we can’t control that, they are the ignorant ones, but slavery is a part of our history. It is what makes you and I who we are today. Yes, our ancestors came from slavery but it is a totally different time now. And it wasn’t just white men who had slaves. According to the U.S. Census report in 1860 only a small minority of whites owned slaves. (slaverebellion.org) The following shows the free Black slave owners and their slaves in Charleston, 1790-1860.

We need to move on from our past. It shouldn’t be about color. And no particular body of people should feel some type of entitlement over another. We are all one in Christ. And we should love one another.

“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (Romans 3:22-23)

“So now i am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as i have loved you, you should love each other.” (John 13:34)
